The Red Project- Anahita’s Dream
1 March – 8 April, 2018 | inTransit Art Space, Nth Sydney
In celebration of International Women’s Day 74 women artists from across North Sydney council and associated collectives were invited to participate in six exhibitions at North Sydney Council Venues throughout March.
Artist were asked to develop work in response to the colour ‘red’ as a colour associated with the earth, energy, strength, action, determination, passion, desire and love.
Anahita’s Dream was developed in response to this theme featuring 5 artists from IWVAC-Australia whose work deeply reference the elements of our innate nature as women. These artists have developed new work calling on the Ancient Persian Goddess Anahita for inspiration. Anahita is considered as the ‘Persian Aphrodite’ and patron of women. She is goddess of fertility, protector of the waters, of animals, and goddess of war. She represents all aspects of life and death – the mother, the lover, the protector and destroyer. Anahita’s Dream recalls the power, beauty and sovereignty of this ancient goddess through classic and contemporary symbolism.
Exhibiting artists are Nazanin Marashian, Sepideh Farzam, Farina Salehi, Azadeh Yaghoubi and Negin Chahoud.

Turquoise Paradox brings together 12 artists working across a divergent practice of object design, jewelry, painting and mixed media and their engagement with the curatorial theme. The colour turquoise has many layers of reference for Iranian culture both past and present. It is a unifying element in the exhibition as is the notion of paradox in relation to their experiences as women within Iran and its diaspora.
As part of the public program for the exhibition we will be running jewelry workshops and artist talks.
